UV Reactive Bracelets, Charms and much more to keep you UV aware whilst enjoying the great outdoors. produces a selection of UV reactive jewellery and accessories to help raise your awareness of ultraviolet (UV) rays whilst enjoying the great outdoors.

Wear one of our simple and stylish jewellery items or accessories and our special ultraviolet reactive beads will let you know when to apply your sunscreen. This is very important as too much exposure to this harmful radiation from the sun can have long term damaging effects on your skin.

In partnership with The Vitiligo Society

UV-Buddy is now proudly working in partnership with the Vitiligo Society which is a small, national charity whose main aim is to support people with vitiligo.

Vitiligo is quite a common condition which makes the skin, and sometimes the hair, turn white in patches. This is because melanocytes, the cells which give the skin its colour, have been damaged. The way the condition develops varies from one person to another. It can spread to cover the whole body, but this does not necessarily happen. The most common form of vitiligo affects both sides of the body, but it can affect one side only.

In partnership with

We are very proud to be in partnership with Skcin, the Karen Clifford Skin Cancer charity. Together we are working on a number of initiatives to provide awareness of the dangers of Ultraviolet exposure. We have just supplied Virgin Holidays with custom Ultraviolet Awareness Bracelets, along with fantastic literature provided by Skcin, and these can be found in the Virgin Holidays “V Rooms” at Gatwick and Manchester airports. We are hoping that we will be able to build on this relationship and stock more locations.

UV Exposure Guide

Regular exposure to high levels of ultraviolet light can damage your skin and eyes over time, and you should always protect yourself when possible. We recommend wearing one of our accessories to warn you when UV levels are high. Below is a guide that shows how our accessories react to ultraviolet light under different weather conditions

For this example we will assume that you have our Purple beads on your items, but of course the principles below apply to all of our ultraviolet reactive beads.

uv buddy cloud and rain icon low levels of ultraviolet (uv) radiation Pale bead colour
uv buddy partial cloud icon medium levels of ultraviolet (uv) radiation Medium bead colour
uv buddy sunshine icon high levels of ultraviolet (uv) raditation Vivid bead colour

If you are someone who spends a lot of time outdoors and your beads are regularly showing up with vivid colour, then we would strongly recommend that you wear a protective sunscreen and good quality sunglasses.

How do our UV beads work?

All UV-Buddy accessories and jewellery items use state of the art colour changing beads containing different pigments that change colour when exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light from any source, including the sun.

The beads are all white in normal visible light. In ultraviolet light, depending on the pigment added to each bead, you will see different colours. Each bead will change colour about 50,000 times before the pigment will no longer respond to UV ultraviolet reactive beads before and after exposure to uv radiation

When wearing our jewellery or accessories, you will be able to determine how much ultraviolet light you are being exposed to. None of the energy in the ultraviolet is visible to the naked eye but our accessories will make you aware of its presence. Just as there are many different colours in the visible spectrum of light, including red, yellow, green and blue, there are also many different wavelengths of ultraviolet light.

Our ultraviolet reactive beads are perfect for raising your awareness of how UV radiation can be harmful to your skin and allow you to take preventative measures to reduce the risks associated with exposure to ultraviolet radiation. As you will no doubt know, excessive exposure of the skin to sunlight will cause it to either burn or tan, and any good doctor will warn you that this is not healthy. Ultraviolet light can cause your skin tissue to wrinkle over time, and prolonged exposure can eventually lead to more serious conditions or even skin cancer. It is vitally important that we realise the dangers of exposure to strong ultraviolet light and take measures to protect ourselves.

Regularly wearing an accessory or jewellery item from UV-Buddy will allow you to monitor the strength of the ultraviolet energy your skin is being exposed to. When your beads are very vibrant in colour you will know when to cover up or apply sunscreen.
